SCHOOLS have been targeted in a campaign aiming to show the importance of personal safety.
The Crucial Crew team staged the two-week campaign in Monmouthshire and it involved schools, including King Henry VIII Comprehensive.
Crucial Crew is a multi-agency initiative. The aim of the event was to teach pupils aged ten to 12-years-old to become more aware of personal safety, learn how to react to dangerous situations; make a contribution to crime prevention, avoid being victims of crime, know what role the emergency services play and foster good citizenship.
The initiative operates by inviting schools to take part in interactive workshops run by each of the agencies involved. Each agency had a station and about 120 pupils visited each one.
Stations were manned by the likes of Gwent Police, Western Power, the Fire Service and Network Rail.
PC Mark Lewis, schools liaison officer and co-ordinator of the event said: “This initiative has proved to be a very worthwhile way of engaging with young people in the area and through the activities run by the agencies involved it provides the opportunity for children from different schools to interact.”
