Clean-up for Lansdown

A crisp Sunday saw Abergavenny’s Lansdown ward enjoy one of its biggest clean-ups. Local residents and children came out in force for a litter pick. It was a joint operation between local councillor for Lansdown ward, James George, Communities First, Monmouthshire Youth Service and the neighbourhood police team.

Cllr George said: “It was just great to see the community pull together. All the children had a fun time and the ward now looks a lot better.”

PC Tracy Bowen-Quirk, of Gwent Police, said: “I’ve never seen anything like it, 35 bags of rubbish from a two-hour pick is astounding!”

Angharad Williams, youth centre manager, said it had been great to see such a good turnout. “We had children as young as four attend and we were really lucky with the weather.”
