Plans to build a free range egg-laying unit for 12,000 birds near Abergavenny will be heard by council members next week.

The site, at The Elms on Elms Lane, Llantilio Pertholey, will consist of an 85m by 18m poultry house, feed bins and a concrete area for servicing, lorry parking and turning.

Llantilio Pertholey Community Council wants the plans refused because neighbours would be affected by the smell and it would be visually intrusive to the nearby National Park.

Outline planning permission was granted by Monmouthshire county council in August 2008, but the new plans include a natural ventilation system rather than fan-assisted ventilation.

The application will be heard at a meeting of Monmouthshire county council planning committee on February 17.

The plans are recommended for approval.
