Members of Chepstow’s Round Table have had a busy July this year, although events haven’t always gone to plan!

Early in July the Round Tablers were due to meet at the Cotswold Flying Centre to go micro-lighting but unfortunately heavy rains and high winds meant that this event had to be postponed until later in the year. Instead the Round Table members met at the ‘Mama Mia’ restaurant in Chepstow to enjoy a nice Italian meal in good company and friendship.

Later in the month the Round Table met to set up and marshal the 2008 Chepstow Carnival. The Round Table, who were the key organisers behind this year’s carnival, had been planning the event for several months and, as this was the first one they had organised, were hoping it would be a good one.

The event was a qualified success with a great procession travelling through town from the Severn Bridge Social Club in Bulwark to the Castle grounds where entertainment was provided in the form of a fun fair at the castle plus musical bands and stalls at the Riverside.

Mr Russ Currie, one of the organisers from the Round Table, stated, “For our first year we aimed to get a procession down through town and to provide entertainment at the riverside, we have done that and it has been more successful than we could have hoped for”.

Mr Martin Curtis, Chairman of the Chepstow and District Round Table said, “Its great to see so many people from Chepstow not only getting involved but also supporting the Carnival. We hope they all had a great day and thank them for helping us raise money for local charities.”  He continued, “For the procession the weather was generally good and the crowds along Bulwark Road and in the town were excellent. For those at the Riverside and at the fair ‘a great day was had by all’.  The Chepstow and District Round Table will now start to organise the Carnival for next year and based on the success of this one, it will be an event not too be missed!”

The Round Table were helped by 1st Rifles plus the Chepstow Rotary and Chepstow Offa’s Dyke 41 Club.

Chepstow and District Round Table meets twice a month, usually on a Monday, and membership is open to men between the ages of 18 and 45 years irrespective of their religious beliefs or political opinions and, the only other restriction placed on the potential member is that he should either work or reside in the catchment area of the Table.
