St Michael's Church was full for a concert with the Beaufort Male Choir and the Llanvihangel Crucorney Primary School Choir.

It was the second time that they had joined forces at the church. The well received Beaufort repertoire included old favourites like Sanctus' and Shosholoza' and newer additions like Bui Doi ', The Rose' and This is the Moment'. Baritone soloist Gerald Phillips, in addition to his solo part in Bui Doi, sang How Lovely are Thy Dwellings', Some Enchanted Evening' and Love Changes Everything'.

His last song, much to the delight of the children, was the old folk ballad Because I were shy'. The Beaufort Musical Director was Craig James and the choir was ably accompanied as ever by Margaret Davies. Craig has systematically modernised the repertoire since he took over in 2006 whilst retaining a number of old favourites.

The 24 pupils in the school choir sang three of their favourite songs Look Up To The Sky', Cysga Di, Fy Mhlentyn Tlws' and Saturday Song' in the first half and later the older children performed two songs from their summer musical Ancient Olympics'. They were accompanied by Eric Ellaway. Headteacher Kathryn Evans was very pleased with their performance as were their many relatives in the audience. Vicar Rev. Derek Young thanked the choirs for taking part and hoped to see them at St Michael's again. Proceeds of the concert will go towards continuing restoration work at St Michael's and to support musical work at the school.
