Pandy resident Julian Winn had a particular interest in the performances of the British Women’s Cycling Team in Beijing. As the endurance coach and manager of the women’s road race and time trial cyclists he oversaw the training and preparations of Nicole Cook, Emma Pooley and Sharon Laws. The trio’s team efforts saw Nicole Cook win a gold medal in the women’s road race and Emma Pooley won a silver medal in the women’s time trial.
As a former Commonwealth Games cyclist himself, Julian is well aware of the demands of the sport. Delighted as they all are by the Olympic results there will be no resting on their laurels. Now they have a deserved break but soon the team will be racing in France and at the end of September there is the next major challenge at the World Road Race Championships at Varesi in Italy. We all hope that they can repeat their Olympic success,
