Showcase: Last Sunday afternoon, the Park Hotel at Pandy hosted Walterstone's car boot sale for Wateraid, raising nearly £200. The hotel’s raffle prize of a £30 voucher for dinner for two was much appreciated. The colourful array of stalls ranged from clothes to books and bric-a-brac to plants. Undeterred by the weather, which had reduced the number of stalls, the event showed remarkable evidence of local talent.
Rebecca Tope, crime writer, who, with Jane Nash of the Park Hotel promoted the idea, was there selling her books. Three gifted young people also took part. There was Emily Perera, who designs and makes her own jewellery, Victoria Fletcher, with her cakes, bakes and preserves, and Carole Jenkins and her hand crafted greetings cards.
From much further afield, Martha and David Holman of Love Zimbabwe, a Fair Trade organisation, put on a display of wonderful crafts. Prior to this sale the Walterstone community group had already raised £800 at a wine and cheese Party in July. Another fundraiser is planned for October – a sale of Wateraid Christmas cards and second best designer clothes at Rowlestone Village Hall.
