Following an appeal for more recruits, the Usk First Responder Team now has three newly-trained volunteers. Tara Kear, Debbie Murray and Pat Seabourne underwent two week-ends of intensive training to join the Usk team, which has been running for six years.

The First Responders work with the Ambulance Service, answering local 999 calls in advance of an ambulance arriving on the scene. Judith Smith, who organises the Usk team, said, "Our numbers had dwindled recently, which meant that there were fewer hours in the week that we could give cover. We're delighted to welcome our new members and hope that in the weeks to come we will be on call' for longer."

More volunteers are still welcome, to fulfil the team's aim to give 24/7 coverage for Usk. "We all do what we can, and there is no pressure on any team member to commit to more hours than they are comfortable with, but it does mean there are times throughout the week when no-one is available," Judith explained.

Volunteers do not need to have any sort of medical background or previous experience, as full training is given. Anyone interested in hearing more about the First Responders' work can contact Judith on 01291 673619.
