The Usk and Communities Action Group, which was set up to fight the Home Office decision to place sex offenders at Pre scoed Open Prison in Usk has now been disbanded.
The remaining funds, which were raised through various events and street collections to support the e ndeavours of the group, have been donated to the Victim Support charity.
Action Group Chairman John Spenceley said, “Once Usk Town Council took up the cause of lobbying the prison service and ministers, and set up a watchful eye on the situation, it was felt that the work of the group had gone as far as it could.
“There was £1, 020 left in the account, and the treasurer Neil Williams and I felt that supporters would be happy to see this money go to such a worthwhile cause as Victim Support.”
