WI NEWS: Usk WI were treated to a talk on ‘Another Usk’ by cllr Alec Leathwood at their September meeting. This other Usk is in Canada, and e-mail contact had previously been established thanks to our Town Clerk. So when cllr Leathwood was planning to visit his sister in Canada, he was asked to include Usk in his travels.
The two towns are truly connected in that an early settler had seen a rocky crag in woodland, which reminded him of Usk Castle, and so the new Usk was born. Cllr Leathwood showed beautiful slides of the area, which even has a river which floods in the same way as the Welsh one. He commented on how friendly the residents were, giving him a warm welcome and inviting him to various local events.
Photographs of the Canadian Usk, taken by cllr Leathwood, are now on display at the Sessions House.
He was thanked for his talk and beautiful slides by Usk WI president, Ann Webster.
