his turned out to be a very important day for several reasons, although ultimately the lack of a win brought heartbreak.

Popular former captain Dai Pattison was celebrating his 300th game for the Black and Ambers and it was fitting that his daughter Jessica join him as he ran out in front of the Newport team.

The visitors on the day were Camarthen Quins who were steady table toppers with an unbeaten season run, and were to be taken very seriously. The task of mascot for the match fell to five year old William Callaghan. Despite his tender age, this was William's second appearance as a Newport Mascot. He joined in with the skills session before the match and then met his favourite player Elliot Frewen. He was also joined by young Daniel Sullivan who was also due for an opportunity to lead out the team.

Both lads ran out with skipper Lee Beach before a close and well played match between two committed teams. Sadly although leading for much of the match, Newport were sunk by two late Camarthen penalties and had to be content with a bonus point.
