MEET THE POLICE: There will be an open police surgery at the Eveswell community centre on Thursday, March 1, from 5pm to 7 pm.

QUIZ NIGHT: You can hotfoot it straight from the police surgery to a friendly quiz at St Julian's Methodist Church. Light refreshments and no charge! Further details from Derek 667 268.

NEWPORT FLORAL SOCIETY: The society began the year with the February meeting, when Mrs Christine Symonds was welcomed and presented with a £1,000 cheque for the Newport branch of the Parkinson's Disease Society, the proceeds of a charity coffee morning held in December.

Mrs Symonds was delighted to receive the cheque and told members of some of the excellent work of the Parkinson's Society.

The floral president, Mrs Elizabeth Graham, then introduced ten floral members, who each used their many skills to create beautiful arrangements depicting wedding anniversaries, from paper to golden.

This year the Newport society celebrates its sapphire anniversary. The society meets at St Julian's Methodist Church Hall at 2.15pm on the first Thursday of each month. New members are always welcome. For further details please ring 672 153.

SPECIAL VISITOR St Julian's Methodists have a very special visitor on Saturday March 3rd at 7.30. It is none other than John Wesley himself (cunningly disguised as Mark Topping!) In a dramatic presentation John Wesley shares something of his life: his childhood, his search for faith, his field preaching, the mob violence he faced, his horseback adventures, his lifelong, single-minded drive to advance the kingdom of Christ. Tickets £4. Accompanied children free. For further details please ring 664 921 or 776 384.

ADVANCE NOTICE On Saturday March 10th there will be a special social evening to celebrate Michael and Anita Payne's ministry prior to their departure after twelve happy years at St Julian's. More about this next week.
