The latest Prince’s Trust course run by the community department has been another notable success. The young men who have been participating in all the different strands of the course met for a week of training and education and bonded into an eager team to meet the high demands put on them.

Following a very successful week both on and off the pitch the young men who participated in the week long course of the Prince’s Trust had an excellent send off with an awards ceremony to acknowledge their achievements.

Newport RFC & Dragons stars Lewis Robling and Sam Parry, both around the ages of the guys on the course, took time out of their busy schedules, to attend the ceremony just hours before they set off for the long trip to Italy to play for the Dragons. Sending their apologies were Welsh stars Dan and Toby, who as you can see in the photograph, were there in spirit if not in actuality.

Some of the young men had their family members in the audience to support them whilst official visitors to the ceremony included our interim CEO Chris Brown, the Prince’s Trust Regional Manager Ian Thomas and Kevin Jarvis secretary of Friends of Newport Rugby Trust.

Community manager, Mike Sage invited the young men to speak to the gathered crowd, and reflecting the confidence they had developed during the week all the lads spoke eloquently and were a credit to themselves and a testament to the success of the Prince’s Trust week.

Mike praised the youngsters for their efforts throughout the week, and was especially proud of the way the lads had stuck to their tasks, “All the lads showed great determination and more importantly, they were able to develop very important employability skills that should stand them in good stead when seeking employment. It has been a superb week for all involved and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership with the Prince’s Trust long into the future,” said a very happy Mike Sage.
