As a result of concerted world wide action the scourge of polio has been eradicated from all but four countries in the world.
However, the job must be finished and constant vigilance is required to stop the disease re-establishing itself.
Rotarians worldwide have pledged their support to match the multi million dollar gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to continue the campaign.
It is hoped that funds can be raised by Rotary International to help the World Heath Organization finally eradicate this dreadful disease which causes so much suffering, misery and death.
Locally, the Rotary Club of Newport is staging a Grand Music & Dance Charity Concert at the Dolman Theatre at 7.15 on Saturday 27th September.
