After a long wait the youngsters of Newport now have a first class skate park at the International Sports Village at Spytty Park.
Councillors have been pressing for this facility for many years and at last it has become a reality.
It should be well used because it was designed in close consultation with the Youth Council and young and not so young skaters.
It will accommodate skaters of a range of skills as well as roller blades and BMX bikes.
In cutting the tape the Mayor, Noel Trigg, warmly welcomed the facility but wisely declined to try it out, as did the Cabinet Member for Leisure, Mike Hamilton.
Also in attendance was the Cabinet Member for Young People’s Services, the Ward Members and other Councillors and Leisure Section Officers
