OH HAPPY DAY: When we experience the beautiful hot, sunny, clear weather we are randomly treated to in South Wales, it is difficult to imagine a more picturesque country.

Driving from Tredegar over Llangynidir mountain to Brecon is simply breathtaking, especially as you come over the rise before you drop down into Crickhowell.

As you climb to the summit, the wide expanse of just space is awesome, coupled with the majestic black outline of Penyfan in the distance silhouetted against a perfect crystal blue sky and beneath it, to the right, Llangorse lake glinting like a mirror signal in the valley.

The sight always prompts me to stop the car, turn off the engine, wind down the windows and just listen to the summer noise of birds, sheep and the soft buzz of the warm, sweet smelling air you can only get from that mountain.

Another beautiful experience is to be had on the beautiful Gower coastline, Swansea.

Driving through and leaving Swansea city behind, carrying on to Mumbles through the large rock walls either side of the road at Bracelet Bay, you come to lineslade and the grassy walk to Langland Bay.

The gorse and heather littered with pretty wild flowers of all colours are growing on your right, but to your left is the open arms of the sea.

A full panoramic view of the beautiful Channel. The sky is electric blue and cloudless and forever, and the sea is two shades darker with even darker mysterious shapes randomly placed seemingly just below the surface. It glints, swells and retreats hypnotisingly.

Colourful yachts fleck the surface as you search for the join between sea and sky.

Big white seagulls scream their joy to be alive on such a gorgeous day as they glide over the glittery almost frosty, Christmassy smoothness.

All this in complete contrast to the greenery of the shrubs and brownness of the sand. It is a feast for the eyes and is brought to life by the glorious light and warmth from the sun.

The sun picks out and illuminates definite colours from this already striking coastline.

When the sun shines on Britain there really is no need to go anywhere else.

A big hello to Edna and John. Please keep reading.
