The annual Brynmawr Scene Citizenship Awards Ceremony for 2007 took place on Saturday, November 10, in Brynmawr Rugby Club.
This event is organised by Sue and Robert Ball, who are also Brynmawr town councillors.
There were over 100 people there and it was a fantastic night, recognising our Unsung Heroes of our town.
The award winners were as follows: Youth Award - Tom Phipps Teacher's Award - Steve Cole of St Mary's Church in Wales School Fundraiser Award - Lilian Harris Special Achievement Award - Jeff Troake Business Award - The Post Office Retail Assistant Award - Arron Williams Community Group Award - Brynmawr Operatic Society Humanitarian Award - Maureen Savage Citizen of the Year Award - Pam and Rob Hancock Edwin Lewis Jones Lifetime Achievement Award - Eifion Lloyd davies Also there was a very special presentation on the night when a cheque for £1,180 pounds was presented to Bev Trinder, a Children's Play Specialist of Nevil Hall Hospital.
This money was raised during Cllr Robert Ball's year of office as the town mayor and was his chosen charity.
A donation of toys, games, books etc was also given to the ward to help raise much needed funds.
During the awards evening, a collection is always made to help a local cause or charity and this year it was in aid of the current town mayor's chosen appeal for 2007/2008 - which is the Wales Air Ambulance - and together with the funds raised with the raffle and the kind donations on the night raised a total of £206.
Town mayor Cllr Eifion Lloyd Davies was there and thanked everyone for their generosity.
Special thanks must also go to Claire Phillips for organising the raffle and for her assistance with the event.
Host and hostess for the evening was Sue Ball and Rob James, with Robert Ball assisting with introductions and providing the music.
This year's event had the support of Brynmawr Police and BRfm - Community Radio for Brynmawr and the surrounding areas.
The Youth Award winner, Tom Phipps, also won a £500 bursary to be used in partnership with BRfm and Brynmawr Police on a community project throughout the year and will be invited back to next year's Awards Ceremony to talk about the project.
To enable this event to take place, Sue Ball would also like to personally thank the following people for their support: Brynmawr Rugby Club, for letting us have the room free of charge; all presenters of the awards for giving up their time; the judges; sponsors of the awards; Insp Iain Thomas of Brynmawr Police; Dai Davies MP; Trish Law AM; Cllr John Hopkins; Cllr Kevin Brown; Wayne Hodgins; BRfm Radio Team and everyone who helped to make this event possible.
Congratulations to all award winners and see you all again next year ... same time ... same place!
