Risca Male Choir's annual event is to be held at Crosskeys College on December 14 and 15 entitled When You Wish Upon A Star - a Disney fantasy event with well known choruses, solos etc plus sing-a-longs.

Winter Praise: Hope Baptist Church Crosskeys (HBCC) celebrates their 125th church anniversary.

Winter Praise with the Salvation Army Risca will be held on 1st December at 7pm. Note: A collection will be taken on the night for the work of the Salvation Army Band. Invitations are extended to everyone.

CAPRA: Crosskeys and Pontywaun Residents Association met at the Philanthropic Inn on Monday, November 12. Items discussed were: The erosion of the stones at Pontyhenge. Who will foot the bill of replacing them if they are not fit for purpose?

Christmas lights at Pontywaun will be turned on November 30.

The neighbourhood Ward Officer, Leah Waters attended CAPRA meeting to inform us that she will be at St Catherine's Church on tomorrow to hear the views of residents about what should be the priorities in the area.

Hopefully, residents who attend the meeting will be positive. Leah is very hardworking and keen to do a good job.

Designs of the regeneration of Crosskeys corner were passed around and there was a collective sigh of relief when it was announced that the hoarding is coming down.

Thanks must go the Viv Huskins of Groundwork Caerphilly, Michael Gray our councillor, all the council officers and all the residents who worked hard to bring it about.

Most importantly thanks to Simon Lai the owner of the takeaway restaurant, who is giving up a regular income for the improvement of the area.

Ideas from residents are needed for the Crosskeys Gateway. The next Groundwork meeting will be informal and residents will be asked to come up with ideas.

The development near Hilary Rise was discussed at length. Mr Harry Silvertsen and our chair, Ricjard Terrell have been very busy this last month challenging the plans of the development, specifically the ability of the drainage and sewer systems to cope with the extra capacity.

Indeed many older residents would challenge the idea that they can cope with the present capacity at certain times The next CAPRA meeting is at the Crosskeys Hotel on Monday, at 7pm.

Chinese Auction: To be held at St Anthony and Clare Catholic Church Hall Risca on Wednesday, November 28, starting at 7pm.

Admission is £1, including a complimentary drink. All proceeds for Church funds.

Advent Carol Service: To be held at Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Church Newbridge on Monday, starting at 7pm followed by refreshments.

As Christmas is Just Around The Corner: The Pontywaun Christmas Lights Fundraising Group would like you to note and put the date of the official Christmas tree switch on ceremony in you diary. It is on Friday, at 6.30pm.

All are welcome and meet Father Christmas!

CAROL SERVICE: The 11th annual Carol Service will be held on Thursday, December 6, at 7pm in St Margaret's Church, Pontymister, featuring the Salvation Army Band, Risca, plus local choirs as in previous years.

However, there will not be a Christmas tree in the grounds of the church as in the past, but festive lighting in the street will exist.

Following the service, Father Christmas will be in his grotto in the church hall, where refreshments will be available, as well as hot punch.

Children will be able to visit Santa by £1.50 admittance.

Bargain hunting: Risca U3A are holding a Chinese Auction on Thursday, at 2pm, in Risca rugby club. Everyone is welcome.

Xmas Coffee Morning: The Inner Wheel Club of Risca are holding the above at St Margaret's church hall on Friday, from 10.30am to 1pm.

There will also be craft and other stalls. Admission is £1.50. Proceeds to local charities.
