Super Skydivers: Well-done David Goodridge, steward of the Wattsville Jubilee Club and his son Craig for taking the plunge from 12,000 feet.

The family bought a sky dive as a present for David on his 60th birthday.

However, Craig could not let him have all the fun so he joined his dad for the death-defying deed at the Army barracks in Cirencester.

It was a beautiful day for the jump and experienced instructors partnered both David and Craig.

David said he nearly panicked as he jumped out of the plane but took a few deep breaths and decided to make the most of the experience.

Craig just said he enjoyed every minute of the dive.

Watching her husband and son from the safety of the ground, Shirley Goodridge said that before the jump she was excited but frightened then relaxed when they landed safe and sound.

David has raised more than £500 so far for Progress, a prostate cancer support group and donations are still coming in.

For more information about Progress their helpline is 01633 234237.

Night of Fun at Club: It was a busy night at Ynysddu Rugby Club when the Under 13s squad held their annual presentation evening in the club's upstairs function room.

The night was well attended by players and parents and they were lucky to have Adam Sliczny as a guest to present the awards.

Mr Sliczny is an ex Ynysddu player who has gone on to play for Pontypool, Waterloo and Wales Under 21.

While the youth teams and their families enjoyed the evening upstairs the club held a preview evening downstairs in the newly refurbished lounge and bar area.

Bob Phillips of Chairman Seating, who refurbished the lounge and bar, sponsored the singing entertainment.

Ken Thomas, club chairman said: "It was a fantastic evening, and we hope that some of the other events that we have planned will turn out just as well.

"In particular the commemorative games planned against Monmouthshire Union and Cross Keys."

Vandalism to School: Ynysddu Primary School has been experiencing a spate of attacks by vandals recently.

Head teacher, Julie Protheroe, says it has been reported that boys in the area are climbing up and throwing slates from the roof - now the cost of this damage is starting to add up.

Leaks are starting to develop in school and the repair costs are now estimated to run into thousands of pounds.

This damage has to be repaired and paid for by the school - this is money it would prefer to spend on items to enhance the school classrooms and resources.

School chiefs say it is a real disappointment to have to keep having the roof repaired.

There has also been some vandalism of the minibuses the school hires to take children out on trips.

If the school can no longer hire the buses because it cannot guarantee their safety, the cost of school trips will rise.

For example, the recent trip to Drayton Manor would have cost an extra £7 per child, if coaches had to be used.

The school has asked parents to talk to their children and wants older children in the village to spread the word.

Luckily, the community is small enough for those who are seen on the roof to be identified.

Hopefully everyone who supports the school will be looking out for the perpetrators.

So, Mums and Dads - do you know what your children are doing in the evening?

Help stop this vandalism before more damage is done or someone is hurt.

The school is also looking to install CCTV to record youths who are causing trouble on the school grounds Coffee Morning: A parent/governor coffee morning was held at Ynysddu School recently to raise funds for the school.

Body Shop representative Lisa Wilkes was there with plenty of samples to try.

Afterwards, all the teachers' names were put into a hat and the winner Mrs Thomas was treated to a facial and makeover with all the school gathered in the hall to watch.

No one is quite sure whether this was a treat for Mrs Thomas or for the children.

Nursing Home Fete: If you are looking for somewhere to go on Saturday why not go along to the Ynysddu Nursing Home Fete on July 28 at 2pm?

There will be lots of things to do including catch the rat, tombola, face painting and throw a sponge at matron in the stocks There will also be hot dogs and refreshments.

Matron, Rose Parsons said the residents and staff have all worked hard to make the day a success and are really looking forward it.

Drainage Works: As you may be aware Caerphilly County Borough Council is about to carry out drainage works at the Memorial Park and Brook Cottages to prevent severe flooding from the watercourse in Brook Cottages.

The authority has received a Welsh Assembly grant to cover most of the costs.

The works were due to start yesterday and are expected to take about two months to complete.

However, the nature of the project means it is likely unforeseen circumstances could cause some delays.

The contractor will endeavour to cause the minimum of inconvenience to the community during the execution of the works, especially at the area near the Memorial Park.

Should you have any queries or have special requirements relating to the drainage works please contact Neil Wilstead (engineering consultancy) on 01495 235060.
