Six Villages - Brynawel, Cwmfelinfach, Wattsville, Wyllie, Ynysddu and Gelli Groes.

Are you celebrating your wedding, anniversary, exam results, or organising an event or a social evening. If so, why not give me a call. I would love to include it in my column.

No to Speed Increase: Following Caerphilly County Borough Council's recent consultation on a proposal to increase the speed limit on the road between the two communities of Ynysddu and Cwmfelinfach from 30 mph to 40 mph, the council has now decided not to go ahead with the proposed increase.

Local residents in both villages were overwhelmingly opposed to the proposal.

Letters had been sent from residents and organisations in the two villages including the Lower Sirhowy Valley Partnership, Cwmfelinfach Residents Association, Ynysddu Rugby Club and the Sardis Luncheon Club.

The Progressive Club in Ynysddu also sent in a petition from its members.

Some commented that to increase the speed limit on this short stretch of road would send the wrong signal to drivers and that measures to persuade drivers to reduce speed throughout the valley was needed.

The news that the speed increase will now not go ahead was greeted with a great deal of relief in the two villages.

Bringing Kindness to Kosovo: Local volunteer, Tina Williams of Cwmfelinfach personally drives and delivers humanitarian aid in the form of food and emergency supplies to the eastern European country of Kosovo to help people affected by the 1999 Balkan war.

Tina said: "People tend to think the problems in this area have been addressed, but the sad thing is they are in the same circumstances as they were at the end of the conflict."

This Easter, she will be travelling again to Kosovo.

Communities Partnership AGM: The AGM of the Lower Sirhowy Valley Communities Partnership took place recently at the Ynysddu Hotel and I was very pleased and honored to be re-elected as chairman.

The partnership allows all residents and members of organisations within the valley to come together for the common good, pool ideas and source funding.

We have had very interesting talks from public bodies and have been able to question and influence plans for our valley.

Our next meeting will be held at 6pm on Monday, February 25,at the Ynysddu Ruby Club when we will have a presentation from the local health board.

Please come along, it is free and the company is good.

Parents and Toddlers Group: Members of the Cwmfelinfach Parents and Toddlers Group enjoyed their Christmas party with Father Christmas and every tot had a present and a goody bag.

Now the organisers are looking forward to the New Year and extend a warm welcome to parents to bring along their toddlers (from babies to school age) to the Monday and Thursday sessions from 9.30am to 11.30am in the Community Hall.

The charge is £1.25 and that includes tea, coffee, squash and biscuits.

It's a good way to get to know everyone.

Now Christmas is over, the group is already planning for the Easter festivities.

Yes - it won't be long before we are all buying Easter Eggs, and the parents and toddlers are planning for the future.
