A light aircraft has crashed in north Cornwall, killing the pilot
A pilot died when a light aircraft crashed into cliffs.
The plane left Perranporth Flying Club at about 4.05pm on Saturday and crashed near RAF Portreath, in north Cornwall, a few minutes later.
The pilot was the only person on board the aircraft, which was on fire when emergency services arrived at Sheep Rock.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said no-one else was believed to have been hurt in the crash.
A rescue operation was launched involving a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose, Devon and Cornwall Police, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and Falmouth Coastguard.
"Police can confirm one man has died after a light aircraft crash near Portreath at 4.05pm," the force spokesman said.
"No other people believed involved. Incident involved plane from Perranporth Flying Club."
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been informed, the force spokesman added.
