THE St David’s Hospice City of Newport Half Marathon has already signed up more than 500 runners.

The event, which is taking place on March 3, 2013, will raise funds for the hospice, but with just 480 places left, people are being encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.

Starting and finishing at Newport International Sports Village, the race, for which the South Wales Argus is the media partner, follows the Riverfront path past iconic bridges and on up to Newport Castle before heading out to Caerleon along the Cycle Pathway.

Event Ambassador, Olympic athlete Darren Campbell said: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been asked to come in right at the start and get involved in and support the City of Newport Half Marathon.

“What I am also very pleased about is that this unique event is being inaugurated and staged here in the City of Newport.

“I will continue to take a keen interest in the half marathon and look forward to seeing how the event develops and grows over the coming years.” Entry is £22, and is open to all abilities.
