BEN FRAMPTON reports on how her death sparked thousands of tributes on social networking sites.

FOLLOWING Nikitta’s murder, thousands of people from across the country used social networking site Facebook as an outlet for their grief.

The website was even used by her family in a bid to contact people who may have information about her killer while the manhunt was ongoing.

Among hundreds of tributes from friends, extended family and people from across the UK, family used the chance to reach thousands of people to try to bring her murderer to justice.

In the days following her murder, Nikitta’s uncle, Richard Brunnock, posted: “This is Nikittas uncle: to all nikittas family and friends if any of u saw her between Monday 31st and Friday night please contact me via inbox with when u saw her and what she was wearing.

This is a forwarded msg from kittas parents.”

People were joining the Facebook groups set up in her memory by the thousands in the first few days following her murder, now there are more than 20 different pages dedicated to Nikitta and Kelsey-May.

Facebook was also used to publicise fundraising nights in the young mum-to-be’s memory, notify friends of any events, such as the balloon release outside the Riverfront Theatre on February 19, and give links to newspaper websites such as the Argus when the latest news broke on the murder investigation.

Pages dedicated to the two still get regular posts, including tributes as well as friends reminiscing about happy times together or if they have seen or heard something reminding them of their friend.

Notable dates, such as Nikitta and Kelsey-May’s funeral, Mother’s Day and Whant’s appearances in court would prompt a surge of activity on the pages, the latter often prompting an outpouring of hatred towards the killer.
