WHEN the Royal wedding takes place next week, one Monmouth woman will be glued to her television.

But, it won't be the bride, groom, or Queen she will be looking out for, but the four garments worn by guests that were crafted by her own hands.

Philippa Barter runs an haute couture business from her home in Osbaston and has made dresses for actresses, royals and people attending events like Royal Ascot and the Dubai horse racing world cup. Her designs include white leather wedding dresses, silk and velvet garments.

She makes exclusive dresses anonymously and wouldn't say who she has made them for, but is currently working on dresses for four people who will be at Westminster Abbey when Prince William marries Kate Middleton on April 29.

Mrs Barter has run the business for 28 years using one sewing machine, and her client base has grown through word of mouth.

She works on 20 outfits at any one time, with it taking three months to make each one, with four fittings and many discussions on fabrics and design.

Mrs Barter lives with husband Martin and said: "They are all unique and designed me. The ones for the royal wedding will all be classic dresses, no short minis as there is a dress code."

She said they will be "classic dresses with a subtle twist" and it will give her more pleasure knowing her dresses are at the big wedding than an actual invite for herself would have.
