WHEN the fanfare sounds at Westminster Abbey tomorrow, a Gwent trombonist will be part of the band heralding the royal marriage.
Jonathan Pippen, 31, from Pontypool is one of seven members of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force who will make up the RAF Fanfare Trumpets to play in the abbey as Kate Middleton walks up the aisle.
Senior Air Craftsman, Mr Pippen said: "We're all very pleased to be here, it's going to be a great moment.
"I found out two months ago and we've been preparing since then."
Mr Pippen was in Westminster Abbey yesterday getting used to the huge space where he will perform on Friday, and will be in there again today as he carries out a dress rehearsal for the biggest gig of his life.
He said: "They're putting trees up and down the aisle in the abbey - it's very exciting to see it all come together."
Mr Pippen will play when the Queen arrives, when Kate walks up the aisle, and to herald the moment Prince William and Kate Middleton sign the register.
Mr Pippen started playing trombone when he was seven. He carried on his love of music at West Monmouth Comprehensive School in Pontypool and later at Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School before attending the Royal College of Music.
He joined the RAF in July 2007, where he plays at RAF parades, changing the guard and medal ceremonies.
