RYDER Cup fever hits Newport this week, with a packed schedule of events around the city.

Team practice rounds tee-off at the Celtic Manor Resort at 8am tomorrow and continue until Thursday.

On Wednesday, Prince Charles will visit the resort to view the 2010 course and meet the competing teams.

That evening, a Welcome to Wales launch concert takes place at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, featuring Katherine Jenkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey.

An opening ceremony takes place at the Celtic Manor at 3.30pm on Thursday and the first rounds of Ryder Cup golf tee-off from 7.45am on Friday.

Golfer Ian Woosnam, who captained Europe to victory in 2006, will open a free-to-access fanzone in Newport’s John Frost Square on Friday morning, by playing a round of crazy golf.

The golf continues at 7.45am on Saturday, with the tournament reaching its final day at 11.30am on Sunday.

A closing ceremony and presentation of the trophy to the winning team will take place at around 5.30pm.
