THE Prince of Wales tees off Ryder Cup festivities today when he meets and greets the captains of the two opposing teams.

Charles will help launch the prestigious bi-annual event as it takes place in Wales for the first time in its history.

He begins a day-long launch celebration at the Celtic Manor Resort, in Newport, south Wales, which is hosting the event.

The Prince will join Europe captain Colin Montgomerie and his US counterpart, Corey Pavin, in the venue's clubhouse when he arrives.

He will go on to take a golf buggy tour of the venue's tented village and see for himself areas which will welcome thousands of fans.

All two dozen players, including Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood, will meet the Prince at an official tournament dinner at Cardiff Castle in the evening.

Later he will attend the 2010 Ryder Cup launch concert at the Millennium Stadium, in Cardiff Bay.

Welsh-born Oscar winner Catherine Zeta Jones will give an opening address before the Welcome to Wales celebratory concert begins.

The star-studded line-up will include Dame Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins, and Only Men Aloud.

The long-anticipated golf event tees off on Friday.
