WITH just under a month until the SuperDragons trail starts, local businesses are helping to ensure the project is a success.

Newport in Bloom, Sytner BMW, University of Wales, Newport, Newport Gwent Dragons, ASDA Pillgwenlly and the Kingsway Shopping Centre are just some of the organisations sponsoring one of the 60 sculptures, which will go on display at tourist hotspots around the city from July 19.

Newport Gwent Dragons rugby team will help transport the 5ft by 6ft artworks, which are part of the Newport Festival 2010, from their storage space in the Kingsway Centre to Rodney Parade where they will be mounted on plinths. Ian Williams who runs a recycling project in Beechwood Park is building a bike trailer to transport the mini SuperDragons, decorated by school pupils, to their locations in city centre shops. The Kingsway Centre will host a reception later this month when invited guests will have an exclusive preview of the finished SuperDragons before the trail starts and a farewell party will also be held in October.

There the SuperDragons will be gathered together for one last time before they are auctioned off on October 27 with proceeds going to the official Ryder Cup charity Tenovus and the Born Free Foundation. Artists are now starting to finish their designs and some will be on display at the free Parklife event at Tredegar Park on July 18.
