Argus website wins UK award

YOUR Argus website scooped a national award.

Southwalesargus.co.uk won the 'Website of the Year' title at the annual Newsquest Editorial & Newspaper Sales Conference.The website beat competition from titles across the UK, including Southampton's Daily Echo, Darlington's Northern Echo and the Lancashire Telegraph.It was praised by judges as a "true 24/7 website" that had responded "very well" to major stories like the Marlborough Road fire in Newport.News of the fire broke on the website, and was regularly updated as events unfolded over the next day.South Wales Argus editor Gerry Keighley received the award from Newsquest group chief executive and chairman Paul Davidson.

Mr Keighley praised Argus staff who he said "have worked so hard to make the website so successful."

He added: "In the last two years it's become a major part of what we do. We can't just be considered a newspaper any more, we are a true multimedia operation."The Argus netted another accolade, being 'Highly Commended' in the 'Front Page of the Year' category.
