WHILE merger proposals with Bristol Docks were still an uncertainty, trade at Newport continued to grow at a health rate, with 1963 being declared a record year for the port.
Twenty-one months after the demolition of Newport’s Lyceum Theatre had begun, calls were being made for the redevelopment of the site as it had now become an ‘eye-sore’.
