DEMOLISHED: Newport's Lyceum Theatre

WHILE merger proposals with Bristol Docks were still an uncertainty, trade at Newport continued to grow at a health rate, with 1963 being declared a record year for the port.
Twenty-one months after the demolition of Newport’s Lyceum Theatre had begun, calls were being made for the redevelopment of the site as it had now become an ‘eye-sore’.
The coldest night of the winter so far was recorded in Monmouthshire with 16F/-9C of ground frost in Usk and 18F/-7.5C degrees in Abertillery.
New Zealand beat Wales 6-0, the first time in the last four attempts at Cardiif Arms Park.
