An inquest was held into the death of a Marshfield woman who had been found drowned in a rainwater tub at the rear of her residence.

A suicide note was found in her purse testifying that she had a good and hard-working husband and that no one was to be blamed for her death except herself.

Newport Schools Medical Officer, Dr Burpit, in his annual report, claimed that since greater impetus had been given to the feeding of school children, a grant from the Board of Education now enabled meals to be provided during school holidays legally.

It was announced that Lord Snowdon, in his capacity as adviser to the Council of Industrial Design, was to visit Newport and Blackwood on April 5 and 6 during a five-day visit to factories and colleges.

The proprietor of Penywain Stores, Pontypool, stood firm in the face of an armed raider demanding cash from her till. He eventually ran off empty-handed.
