ABERTILLERY District Council were approached for information as to how many men may be released from the council’s employ in order to undertake work in the transportation and making of munitions of war.
In the House of Commons the Prime Minister announced that proposals for the regulation of liquor traffic during the war would be laid down in the next few days.

THE Easter holidays had seen weather conditions consisting of snow, sleet, rain and high winds with an AA spokesman commenting it had been more like Christmas.
Construction work began on Newport’s new store, British Home Stores and an office block, which would be Newport’s highest building. The building was being erected on the site of the old town hall.

DESPITE high interest rates there were signs that the housing market was beginning to show signs or recovery according to the latest survey.
The government was considering major changes to the community charge which would include completely new legislation.
