LAST week's picture was from Pontypool

• The Now and Then picture is of the old town hall, Pontypool. At one time it was the town hall and court house. The council offices are now at the side and rear of the building.

Also, on the side of the old building was once the police station.

The police station has now moved a number of yards away to a new building.

Outside the building, as there has been for many years, are the bus stops for people travelling North of Pontypool.

Opposite the old town hall stands Pontypool Library, which is still in use, and next to the library are the Pontypool Memorial Park gates, this is where the Armistice Service is held every year.

You can also go through the gates into Ponypool Park and Italian gardens.

Next to the old town hall is a church which is not in use anymore and the building is in need of renovation.

It's nice to see the old town hall and library building still standing and still being used.

• The Now and Then picture is of the town hall, Pontypool. I worked in the finance department at the town hall back in the 1950s and at that time both my father and my wife's father had businesses in the town.

My wife used to regularly attend St James' Church.

I remember that downstairs in the church hall, the rates office was on the left-hand side of the building and the collections office on the right-hand side.

Behind these offices was the magistrates court with the clerk's office in front, All the local authority council meetings were held at the building and upstairs there was a function room taking up the whole floor that used to be regularly hired out for functions.
