The picture is at Osborne Road, Pontypool. The first building on the left of the picture is the Conservative Club, which is still open; next to it is the television shop called Family Vision, then Braxars Café, an Italian café.

Next was a bicycle shop owned by Mr Saunders, and Mr Nichols owned the ironmongers’ shop. Down the street was Wallis’ fruit shop and a corner shop owned by Mr Ford.

There was a gents’ tailors called Masters. One of the shops facing up was a shop selling fancy clothing called Leila’s, right of the picture is the bank, a dentists’ owned by Mr Allis is above the bank, then County Furnishes shops.

Next, Mr Bryant ran a watch repair shop, next is the Royal Cinema managed by Mr Fred. Then a Roath furniture shop and, next, a chapel called St David’s Hall, which is now flats.

It is Osborne Road. Pontypool

This was once the main road through to Blaenavon, before the bypass was built. Then photo the building on the left is the Conservative club, still there and still trading the same.

The building opposite once housed the New Royal Cinema there was an entrance on Osborne Road and also one on George Street. The building is now demolished and a one-way road system is there. At the bottom of Osborne Road the last building was the Post Office.

This is now a couple of doors up.

There was also a café, a cycle shop and other traders there.

All now have changed hands. At present there is a weather spoons pub operating on Osborne Road and other businesses.

At the bottom is NatWest bank and where Osborne Road joined George Street is now pedestrianised.
