BACK ON TRACK
July 2001 saw the Argus launch a campaign to reopen the Newport and Ebbw Vale rail link in 2005. The piece launching the push stated, 'We want this crucial passenger rail link to be reopened in 2005 at the same time as the Ebbw Vale to Cardiff line is to open for business - and not as Railtrack say in six years' time.'

JUSTICE FOR THE MINERS
Since 1999 the Argus has campaigned for action to speed up payouts to miners with lung diseases and their families. Three years later, the campaign began to pay-off with payments reaching those who needed them. According to the DTI who administer the payouts, 'The Argus campaign has kept the matter in the public eye and kept pressure on politicians. It is so important that we continue to seek justice for the miners and ensure they get their compensation.'

NEWBRIDGE MEMO

EISTEDDFOD 2004
Summer 2004 saw the National Eisteddfod return to Newport. Taking place between between 31 July and 7 August 2004 the Festival was held in the grounds of Tredegar House, the venue used for the highly successful National Eisteddfod in 1988.
