THE HARDY souls of the Cogan Coronation Club and The Station Hotel are getting ready to do battle once more, all in the name of charity.
This year’s Richard Buckley Memorial Cup takes place again at the Cogan Recreational Ground from 1.30pm on Sunday, August 24, for a no-holds-barred contest of skill and endurance in the art of baseball.
In what can only be described as Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory meets The Sound Of Music, the two teams will take to the field as the Oompah-Loompahs against a rum collection of sorts from the local convent!
Coronation team Captain, Andrew Charles “Charlie” Charles, has once again trained his young pretenders rigorously by insisting that they eat a large percentage of the Factory’s chocolate output, and I’m sure all will agree that the results are quite astonishing!
Meanwhile, the Top House team have been busy worshipping the great Gods that are lager, stout and Sambuca at the altar of the Station Hotel.
Whilst the match takes place, there will be refreshments and food available, a bouncy castle, face painting, raffle and several other amusements to keep all and sundry happily occupied.
After the match, Tony and Tina at the Station Hotel have cordially invited all those still able to walk, or not hospitalised, back to their establishment to continue the festivities.
