Dan Evans in at 10 for Dragons Dan Evans in at 10 for Dragons

DAN Evans will make his first start at fly-half for Newport Gwent Dragons in Sunday's LV= Cup game against Northampton at Rodney Parade.

The 25-year-old has scored five tries while making a fine start to his Dragons career since heading east from the Scarlets in the summer but he has played exclusively in the number 15 jersey.

But Evans, capped twice by Wales, has been shifted to fly-half in games and will be given the duty from the off on Sunday.

Wayne Evans makes his first start of the season following back trouble, Ashley Smith skippers the side from midfield while Adam Jones and Rob Sidoli form an experienced second row partnership.

Wales Under-20s prospect Ieuan Jones moves from number eight to blindside after impressing in the defeat to Bath last weekend, allowing in-form Tom Brown to return at the base of the scrum.

Northampton include scrum-half Lee Dickson and flanker Phil Dowson after they were released by England for game time.

Dragons: T Prydie, W Harries, P Leach, A Smith (captain), T Chavhanga, D Evans, W Evans, O Evans, H Gustafson, D Way, A Jones, R Sidoli, I Jones, N Cudd, T Brown. Replacements: S Jones, P Price, N Buck, I Nimmo, L Evans, J Evans, L Robling, J Dixon.

Thank goodness there is some sign of the normal first choice players coming back. Four or five are now coming back either in this game or the next, but unfortunately a win is still going to be hard to get unless we hit the ground running and dominate from the start until the end. Will still go looking for a better performance all round.

All this game is good for it the gate money and seeing if there is any cohesion between half backs and the back line, and how much team spirit and "Hywl' can be generated against a top English side.

I regard this as a character building exercise for both the team and coaching staff, we are not going to win.

Another bench player made captain, awesome... how many times has he started this season? What is DE thinking?? let's make use of the experience we have in the team, without it we are rudderless.

As most people know, Dan is a 10 by trade but got converted to full back by the Scarlets who had 2 good 10s at the time. Be interesting to see how he goes. Let's hope he doesn't spend all the game just tackling. Form suggests we will get smashed. I will be watching through my fingers again no doubt.

Credit where it's due Dan was great at 10. The teams failings are well known and they are the reason for the loss again but the back line performed well tonight and it's encouraging to think, with the promised investment next season, they will having a team capable of competing.
