SEASON’S greetings to all the Newport County fans and I hope you enjoyed singing in the rain at Forest Green on Boxing Day!

The win certainly meant it was a merry Christmas for everyone at the club and, as we prepare for our last match of the year at Hereford today, let’s hope 2013 is as good to us as 2012 has been.

It’s been an incredible year for the club having been to Wembley for the first time and finishing it right in the hunt for promotion back to the Football League.

I always said I wanted to come back to Newport at some time and since I arrived in the summer things could hardly have gone better – not that it’s all down to me of course!

The manager has done a fantastic job over the past 12 months and has brought together a great squad with real team spirit.

That was clear to see at Forest Green as we battled back from a goal down in terrible conditions to earn another vital three points.

And the fact that the two subs came on and both scored shows how important every member of the squad is if we’re to keep up with our rivals for promotion.

I was delighted for Ben Swallow and especially Ryan Charles, who’s had a difficult time this season.

You could see how much that goal meant to him – I’ve never seen him move so fast as when he was celebrating!

It was a superb goal and has really given us all a lift at the start of the festive fixtures.

It should give him a boost as well because we’ve all seen him do that sort of thing in training and he’s finally shown everyone else what he’s capable of.

With last week’s game against Braintree postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Rodney Parade we’re all hoping that the same doesn’t happen at Edgar Street today.

We want to build on the last two wins and get a bit of momentum going and we don’t want too many fixtures piling up later in the season.

We’re all looking forward to what should be another great game with an atmosphere to match so hopefully the rain holds off.

The fans’ backing really made a difference on Boxing Day. To take more than a thousand to an away game shows what great supporters we have and I’m sure there will be just as many planning to make the journey to Hereford.

I haven’t got great memories of my last visit as I was sent off there last year for getting two yellow cards and we lost 1-0.

I’ve had plenty of cards this Christmas but I’m hoping I won’t get any more today!

I’ve enjoyed this Christmas more than any I can remember for several reasons.

First off we got the win, which always helps, and we didn’t have to go in for training on Christmas Day – the first time in over a decade for me.

As I said last week I don’t mind missing out on the usual festivities because it just comes with the territory of being a footballer.

But it’s always nice to have a bit more time with family and friends and I loved being able to see my little girl open her presents.

I also had a great welcome at my best friend’s house but I must be getting old now because my presents were all socks and pyjamas.

Not quite pipe and slippers yet but I’m sure they won’t be far off. Enjoy the New Year celebrations and make sure you shake off the hangover for Forest Green at home on New Year’s Day. I’ll see you there!
