Willmott signs for County

NEWPORT County have signed winger Robbie Willmott from Cambridge United.

The Exiles released the following statement on their website moments ago: Newport County boss Justin Edinburgh has described the signing of Cambridge United winger Robbie Willmott as 'major boost' to the squad as they prepare to tackle Lincoln City and close the gap on leaders Wrexham this weekend.

Paperwork was completed this afternoon with the 22-year old, who was capped at England C level and named in the Conference Team of the Year last season, meeting his new teammates today.

A delighted Edinburgh told the website: "Every time I have come across him as a manager he has caused havoc and he is one that I have kept an eye on for sometime and am glad everything has been completed.

"He's been involved in four play-offs, has experience at this level and will be a major boost for us as we head for the second-half of the season and aim to get back to winning ways.”

"He can play on either wing and will give us a different dimension going forward and I'm pleased to have him on board."

Sounds good to me. Lets hope he makes a difference. 2 more solid defenders like Pond of Grimsby would also go down very well. But lets wait and see. Great if we had Bignot on loan as well.

I agree Bignot would be a great addition. Pity about Colins especially Forest Green's attitude in preventing a player moving when he is not required with them.
Almost smacks or restraint of trade.

It's an admission that they fear the County so will do whatever they can to limit them winning more games. I'm sure any team would do the same so it's down to the players still there to make up for it by winning more games.

I don't disagree with you Robert. Man City did a similar thing with Craig Bellamy, but still not a nice situation for the player concerned if he has to move to a lower league to get game time.

Two of the best Conference players seen at Rodney Parade...Marley Watkins, Hereford winger and Tom Elliott, Cambridge striker.

finally some transfer news.

it was indeed unlikely that todd would come back to a conference rival , maybe a signing for the future.

what other tricks has edinburgh got up his sleeve?......... come on justin lets see your hand

He is used to getting well beaten at Rodney Parade so should fit in well.

A goal keeper must be a top priority. Julian is dire and Pidgeley seems to be out of favour with Mr Ed.
