NEWPORT County boss Justin Edinburgh is expecting the Exiles’ bid to improve their squad to go right to the wire.

The Exiles are now without a game until Braintree Town visit Rodney Parade next Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm) and he is instead turning his attention to the transfer market.

The Exiles have until midnight next Thursday to conclude any outstanding business and the County manager is expecting things to drag well into the night on January 31.

“It’s crazy, but it’s the reality of this window, only a very small percentage is done between January 1 and January 30 and then it goes crazy for a day,” said Edinburgh.

“I don’t like it, but that’s reality.

“We now have a full week where I can focus more on the transfer side of things than preparing for a game and I’m grateful for that.

“But it’s very hard to bring in players better than what you have, especially in the winter.”

County captain David Pipe was disappointed by the postponement at Woking on Tuesday, because he wanted to make amends to fans for Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to Barrow.

“We are very disappointed with the week, it goes without saying, that we were very disappointed after the Barrow game, we came there expecting to win and we didn’t turn up,” said Pipe. “Everyone is hurting and now we have to wait a bit longer for a chance to put it right.”

l County’s clash with Southport, postponed from this Saturday due to Southport’s FA Trophy involvement has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 26, kick-off 7.45pm.

The home match against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, February 2, has been moved to a 3.15pm kick-off to avoid a clash with the rugby match between Wales and Ireland at the Millennium Stadium.
