IT’S been three weeks since our last game and we are desperate to get back to action and get our promotion push back on track.

The snow and the rain have played havoc with the fixture list and it’s almost like we’ve had a mini pre-season.

With games getting called off the intensity has gone up in training as a result and it is frustrating working hard all week and then not having a game at the end of it.

Having said that I think that last week’s decision to postpone the Kidderminster match was the right one.

The rain hadn’t drained out of the pitch and we are a lot better on firmer surfaces so it wouldn’t have suited us at all.

The criticism of the groundstaff at Rodney Parade is out of order in my view.

This week they’ve had the Dragons on there last night, then us today and then Newport RFC tomorrow so they’re all working really hard to maintain the playing surface and I think they’re doing a great job and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the players.

We would have had a lot more postponements if it wasn’t for them and the fans that helped out clearing the snow as well.

Another positive from the postponements is that it gives the injured players a chance to recover a bit more.

Any team in this league is going to miss Max Porter and Aaron O’Connor so the fewer games they’re out for the better.

And the new guys Scott Donnelly and Will Evans have also had a chance to get to know us all rather than being thrown in at the deep end after one training session last week.

They’ve settled in well and will give us some good competition in midfield with Jake Thomson back as well.

We’ll obviously miss Lee Evans, and Max for the next few weeks at least, but the manager has acted quickly to bring in replacements and the squad is looking in good shape.

One player who has left the club this week is Ryan Charles and it was sad to see him go.

Charlesy is a character and it was good to have him around the place.

Obviously he wants to play regular football, even if that means dropping down a few levels initially, and you can’t knock him for that.

As we saw at Forest Green on Boxing Day, when he scored a cracker of a goal, he was capable of making a contribution at this level but it just didn’t work out for him here.

I’m sure he’ll be the first one on the phone reminding us about that goal if it turns out to be a crucial one come the end of the season.

We’re expecting a tough game against Tamworth today.

It was a hard-fought win for us up there earlier in the season and we know that if we don’t turn up with the right attitude we’re going to struggle.

We’ve trained well this week and we’re determined to get three points on the board for the first time in a month.

But what is great about football is that you never know what will happen on the day.

Match-fixing has been in the news a lot this week and in all honesty I’ve never come across it in my career.

Obviously though, as we found out this week, it does go on and anyone who is involved deserves a heavy punishment because it ruins the integrity of the game.

There was talk of our game at Tamworth a few years ago being under investigation but, as far as we know, there is nothing in that.

That was before any of us players or the manager were here anyway but as a Liverpool fan I was pleased to see that we weren’t good enough to win 4-0 even when some of the Debrecen players had supposedly fixed it! We only won 1-0, so well done Liverpool!

Finally, David Pipe and I attended a meet-the-fans curry night earlier this week and it was a great night seeing all the good work the Supporters’ Trust does. I’d like to thank Dave Roberts of the Trust for inviting us along.

We met a lot of the fans and had a good chat and were able to answer most of their questions.

It was an enjoyable night, even if Pipey let the side down by ordering a korma! Let’s hope he’s celebrating a County win with something spicier tonight.
