JUSTIN Edinburgh hailed his secret weapon as County moved menacingly towards the summit of the Blue Square Bet Conference – lucky charm Danny Crow.

Crow scored what turned out to be the winner with a beautiful finish on Saturday, controlling brilliantly before converting from a narrow angle with precision.

The former Luton man also had a goal questionably ruled out after only 30 seconds and he again exhibited a tremendous work rate.

Crow is a firm favourite with the Rodney Parade crowd but Edinburgh was quick to point out that his contribution to the side is beyond question. Of the 18 games he’s started this season, the Exiles have won 14, drawn three and lost just once – at Dartford last September.

“As a striker Danny would like to score more, but his contribution to the team since the start of the season has been amazing,” he said.

“He has only played in a losing side once and that speaks volumes. The players work hard and he typifies that.”

Edinburgh was satisfied with a win that sets up the Exiles for a tricky run of four successive away games, starting at Gateshead tomorrow.

“We controlled the game from start to finish and overall I was pleased with the performance,” he said.

“We had a sticky spell but we know how to win games. We’ve lost three of the last 12 and that’s in a period of so-called bad form.

“We’ve been outstanding away from home and it won’t bother us, we’ll roll our sleeves up and utilise the full squad because there is a lot of travelling to some tough places, but we’ve won three on the spin, it’s good going.”
