County statement on Acorn

Acorn announced yesterday that they were bringing to an end their long running and successful sponsorship of Newport County AFC after informing the Club that they would not be re-newing the agreement for next season.

The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks for their wonderful sponsorship and support over the 14 year period and the significant contribution that it has made during that time.

Our thanks go to Matt Southall for the support from his company. Matt acknowledges that it was a business decision on their part not to continue the agreement.

We would also like to thank them for the magnanimous way that they have recognised that the Club is able to attract a new level of sponsors and partners which would preclude Acorns from the exclusivity they have expressed a desire of.

In addition to announcing a lucrative partnership with Sytner Newport, the Board will be announcing an exciting portfolio of new sponsors over the coming weeks and months in their quest to take Newport County AFC forward.

Thanks Matt Southall for your unrivalled support and generosity during what were some very hard times - it was to guys like you that we owe a huge debt as County supporters. One would hope that it doesn't mean an end to your involvement at some level, I'm sure though that you'll always be a fan.

Thank you Matt and Acorn. You can be very proud of your support for Newport County, everything achieved so far and hopefully the platform established for future growth. It has been fantastic to have a successful local company with a social conscience putting something back into the community.

Read between the lines.

We tried it on, it didn't work, we've now got to go and find new sponsors.

Howard Greenhaf runs a very large and successful business. I don't know if there is some personality/ego clashes but lets not forget a good unpaid chairman was driven out by insults and conspiracy theories. I would urge fans to base any comments on facts not speculation as most of the County board work unpaid for what they think is in the best interests of the club and for no personal gain. They could easily walk away - be careful what you wish for.

Good point there are some people who stay with it move with the times and accept that the club moves its expectations some people live in the past. But the board now have to deliver a budget that takes the team forward

It can only happen in Wales. Honesty & integrity this is not, Newport County you have made your bed.......
Mr. Southall - you should be very proud of what you have achieved. You for one can look themselves in the mirror. Others should hang their heads in shame. Disgraceful way in which to deal with people.

48 hours on and got to admit it feels like somethings missing. Matt the comments here and everywhere else show the esteem that you are held in and what you achieved is something you can always be proud of.

I have major doubts about the level of sponsorship but only time will tell. Make no mistake not many clubs get a true fan to back them like Matt has and one of the most respected businessmen in Wales never mind Newport, has now parted company with the county.
