NEWPORT County AFC chairman Les Scadding believes the future is bright for the Exiles after the announcement of 32Red as their new main shirt sponsor.

The Exiles unveiled next season’s kits and revealed the one-year “record” deal that will see the national gambling firm act as Newport’s principal sponsor with Sytner BMW’s logo adorning the back of the new jerseys.

County’s home shirt will remain amber, the away shirt will be white and a new third strip, in black, will be unveiled later in the summer.

Scadding believes it’s yet another sign of the club moving in the right direction and has promised supporters there are still bigger things to come before the Exiles return to the Football League after a quarter of a century in the non-league.

“We had a brilliant sponsor in Acorn who we are so grateful to and can’t thank them enough, but upward and forward and I think this is a fantastic move for the club.

“We know the club has needed to catch up a bit off the pitch and become professional in every regard and we’ve had some doubters, but hopefully we are pleasing a few of those sceptics.

“We had a great season, we want to build on it and the squad is coming together nicely.

“First and foremost we need to survive, but we ideally want to do something like last season. The fans will hopefully be excited, we’ve got Justin’s great judgement, a good squad and feel like we are going to make a few signings that will really surprise people.”

County’s chief executive Dave Boddy commented: “This is another massive step forward for the club, attracting an international company to advertise their brand on our shirts.

“We are delighted to be working with 32Red and hope it is a stepping stone to developing relationships with other national companies.

“They are a Premiership partner having sponsored Swansea last season and Aston Villa previously.”

Mark Quayle, head of marketing for 32Red, said: “We are thrilled to support Newport County in their first season back in the Football League.

“Having sponsored two clubs in the top flight we are now looking to invest in the roots of football.

“The Exiles are one of those clubs who caught our eye. We’re confident the team has what it takes to make the sponsorship a success for us.”

The Exiles are likely to unveil some new players as soon as tomorrow.
