A LADIES’ football team are proudly flying the flag for Halstead Town.

The side, set to enter a seven-a-side Essex League in August, have come under the club’s umbrella and train at Rosemary Lane.

They already have a dozen players and plans are afoot to stage a five-a-side tournament at the ground, on August 18.

“We’ve been really pleased with the way things have progressed,” said Tara Carr, acting manager along with Zoe Brooker.

“Most weeks we have nine or ten girls at training and we’re looking forward to what the future brings.

“Halstead Town have been so fantastic and very supportive.

“We’re really thankful and will be proud to fly the flag for the club.”

The team are still on the look-out for new players and they train between 7pm and 8.30pm on Wednesdays.

“We’re delighted the ladies have come under the club’s umbrella,” said Town chairman Jim Holder.

“We’re very keen to integrate everyone, from the men’s teams to the ladies to the youth sides.”

Meanwhile, first-team boss Mark Benterman has added to his squad by signing ex-Hornchurch and Concord Rangers player Gareth Thomas.
