Motorpoint Arena: Undercard review
BLACKWOOD’S Craig Evans finally got the experience he craved after a comfortable victory over Yousef Al Hamidi.
The undefeated lightweight had never been beyond six rounds and welcomed the experience after a comfortable points victory over eight sessions, 80-73 on the referee’s card.
On an undercard packed with up and coming Welsh talent, it was almost a clean sweep of victories for the Motorpoint Arena crowd to enjoy.
Blackwood’s Rhys Evans, younger brother of Craig, won on his professional debut, 40-36 over the game Matt Seawright.
Vince Cleverly trained Aled Cook also enjoyed a debut triumph, beating Kieron Gray 40-36 in the opening contest of the evening.
However, there was disappointment for St Joseph’s gym in Newport as their debutant fighter, Danni Griffiths from Bridgend, was beaten 39-38 by Courteney Richards.
It was a better night for Cwmbran’s Gary Lockett, his fighters Lewis Rees and Liam Williams both winning all eight sessions of their contests with Dee Mitchell and Darren Cordona respectively at welter and middleweight.
Enzo Maccarinelli, Gary Buckland and Nathan Cleverly feature in the main events on Wales' biggest night of boxing since 2008.
