Brilliant Bond finishes day one in top ten
CHEPSTOW’S Liam Bond produced one of the best rounds of his entire career on the opening day of the ISPS Handa Wales Open.
The St-Pierre professional certainly didn’t get the best of the draw, going out as one of the final players on a day where virtually all the low scoring came in the morning.
Indeed, overnight leader Espen Kofstad, who shot 64, was in the first group out this morning at 7.25am.
But Bond defied the Twenty Ten course and his status as a club professional with a splendid round of 69, two under par and good enough for tied ninth overnight.
Bond enjoyed four birdies and endured only two bogey’s, the all-round state of his game perhaps best illustrated by him getting a rare three on the 14th, the hole today that saw Philip Price and Darren Clarke take seven and Rhys Davies make an eight.
