TALENTED Cwmcarn golfer Declan Spencer recently became Bryn Meadows Golf Club’s youngest ever club champion at the age of 16. He won their prestigious tournament after a nail-biting play-off on the second hole.
Declan has been a member at the Pontllanfraith club since he joined three years ago as a 13th birthday present.
He has a busy weekend ahead, looking forward to the Edgar Jeffries matchplay tournament on Saturday and the junior club championships on Sunday.
Declan is a keen member of Bryn Meadows’ junior team who have lost just once this season and he has played for the club’s second team, winning his match 6 and 5.
Last year he fought through tough competition to qualify for the Junior Wales Open Championship at the Celtic Manor’s Twenty Ten Course which was built to stage the 2010 Ryder Cup.
Declan is studying for his A-levels at Cwmcarn High School.
