The Newport County Junior Academy received an early Christmas present when the Smile Council (Newport County supporters group) presented a £600 cheque to the Academy Committee at Llanwern High School to pay for extra training time on Llanwern's 3G astro pitch.

Darren Broadribb (Academy secretary) said it was another step forward in recent restructuring to improve the Academy and the money would allow all age groups either more training time or pitch area, which was crucial for the players' development.

The Smile Council have committed themselves to help fund the Academy and this was another great gesture from them.

Recently they also paid for the hire of mini buses for the academy players to travel to away games and also donated footballs and bibs.

The Smile Council are committed County supporters who are passionate about helping the Academy which is thrilled to have them on board.
