NEWPORT County AFC say they will do all they can to ensure that Wednesday's League Two clash with Oxford United at Rodney Parade goes ahead as planned.

The New Year's Day match (kick-off 3pm) is in doubt, however, after heavy rainfall in the past few days and with more forecast to arrive over the next few days.

Head of Operations at Rodney Parade Mark Jones has posted a picture of the pitch showing puddles in several areas.

But County chief executive Dave Boddy is hopeful that the match can go ahead, particularly after the home clash with AFC Wimbledon was postponed on December 21.

County have not had a home league clash since the 3-2 win over Chesterfield on December 1.

"It's too early to speculate but we are doing all we can," said Boddy.

"We are doing a lot of work on the pitch and we will move heaven and earth to get the game on."

County have borrowed six water hog machines from the Celtic Manor and will continue to work on the pitch over the next few days.

"The groundsmen have been working on it all day and it has improved dramatically," added Boddy.

"We are still hopeful that the game will go ahead and will make another assessment tomorrow."
